Stay safe on the school holidays Your hospital, with Dr Nicki Murdock

School holidays often result in extra injuries from days spent skateboarding, horse riding, motor biking and more.

This means we expect more of you at the Accident and Emergency Department.

We have radiographers available during the day to take X-rays, and the same people are on call overnight.

If you have a suspected fracture and come up after 5pm there are two options:

  • we may put a splint on for comfort and X-ray the next day,
  • if treatment is needed that night we will call someone in.

Waiting until the next day allows our radiographers to get rest and be fresh next day for the busy days we always have.

Enjoy those days, and play safe.
